Strengthening Public Sector Asset Management in North Macedonia
In mid-March, we organized country visits to the Macedonian Ministry of Finance and the State Audit Office, bringing together policymakers and stakeholders to exchange experiences on reform implementation and asset management. These discussions highlighted how effective state asset management enhances transparency, accountability, and smarter decision-making.
The visits marked the launch of the Empowered Accountants and Auditors for Accountable Public Sector program under the Public Sector Asset Management project. This initiative builds on the Efficient Public Sector Asset Management (EPSAM) project (2022–2024) and is funded by Slovenia Aid through the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
A key component of the project is the upcoming international certification in state asset management for South East Europe. These visits directly contributed to its development, reinforcing the commitment to building stronger governance frameworks. As part of this effort, the project will provide certification training for two cohorts of up to 25 public sector officials from 15 countries, further advancing ongoing asset management reforms.
H.E. Gregor Presker, Slovene Ambassador to North Macedonia, joined the team during the visit and highlighted the achievements of the State Audit Office, recognizing its success as a model in the public sector. He reaffirmed Slovenia's commitment to supporting ongoing cooperation and the exchange of best practices in public asset management.
Discussions during the visit focused on:
- Strategic approaches to reform implementation
- Developing ownership policies
- Strengthening institutional frameworks & accountability
- Using data for informed decision-making
- Conducting performance audits in public asset management
By fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing, these efforts aim to enhance state asset management across the region, ensuring more effective governance and sustainable public sector reforms.
