Georgia Is Ready to Take the Next Step in Implementing Modern Internal Control System
For the past two years the CEF has been supporting the implementation of the Public Internal Financial Control System at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) of Georgia by running the preparatory project for introducing Training of Internal Auditors in the Public Sector (TIAPS). In late February the project was successfully completed.
To help Georgia further develop capacities of internal auditors in the public sector, the CEF has delivered the project and helped local authorities prepare for delivering the certified training TIAPS. This will support the implementation of modern internal control systems within the program “Public Finance Management South-Caucasus” run by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
During the project duration we are proud that the following milestones have been met:
- Public Internal Control Unit of the Georgian MoF has identified a take-over institution which will in the future run the training of auditors independently.
- We have provided training materials of three international modules for translation and proofreading in local language. All materials are approved by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).
- In cooperation with the international experts we have conducted four trainings for tutors (three on the international modules and one on the methodology of training).
- Two face-to-face Localization Working Group meetings were held where further action plans have been developed.
As per decision of the working group, a formal presentation on governmental level about the certification program will take place in mid 2020.
The CEF remains available to assist in the follow-up activities to help Georgians run the program independently.
