December: Month of Macedonia at the CEF
December will promote Macedonia as the second CEF constituency countries under the initiative of the CEF monthly country presentations.
Did you know that:
- Macedonian Ohrid Lake is estimated 4 million years old and has 200 endemic species that haven’t been found at any other place in the world.
- The Cyrillic alphabet, official in Macedonia, is based on the alphabet developed in the 9th century by brothers St Cyril (thus – Cyrillic) and St Methodius. It was taught by their disciples at a monastery in Ohrid, from where it spread across the eastern Slavic world.
- Macedonia is the birth land of Mother Teresa.
- According to NASA, Kokino is the fourth oldest astronomic observatory in the world; with the oldest three being Abu Simbel, Egypt; Stonehenge, Great Britain; and Angkor Wat, Cambodia.
- Macedonia has higher number of mountains and mountain peaks than any other country in the world.
We will mark the month of Macedonia in the CEF renewed lobby with various promotion materials about cultural heritage, history and landscape of Macedonia, movies, information on interesting specifics and fun-facts. Macedonian desserts will be served during the coffee breaks of our learning activities and the CEF program facilitators will present Macedonian culture to participants of learning activities and invite them to share their experiences connected with Macedonia. We will spread the word about the activities also through our various communication channels including social media.
