In Focus: CEF Roundtable to Discuss Increasing Importance of Gender Responsive Budgeting

We are organizing round table discussion on the topic of Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB). The objective of this initiative is to provide greater prominence to GRB and gender diversity in ongoing economic reform processes. Round table that will take place at the CEF premises on April 18 – 20, 2016 will bring together international experts on GRB. Case studies from the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) region and South East Europe will be presented as well.

GRB initiatives seek to improve the results of budgets in general, and gender equality and women’s empowerment in particular. They focus on key economic and social matters that are often overlooked or obscured in conventional budget and policy analysis, and decision-making. GRB is not a separate process from PFM reform and should be integrated within PFM reforms as it provides better information and ensures better and more equitable budgeting. Due to increasing importance given to gender issues in the context of the adoption and implementation of the SDGs, countries and regions are facing planning and implementing challenges. The two-day round table will be a great opportunity to discuss pressing issues and learn from the experiences. See detailed round table program here.

Round table will be followed by the annual meeting of the Gender Diversity and Governance around the Mediterranean (GDGM) network. Ms. Mira Dobovišek, CEF Director, is an active member of the GDGM network comprising of senior women leaders in public administrations across the Mediterranean. The network aims to consolidate gender diversity by reinforcing women's role in administrations, especially economic and financial administrations; creating a network in a position to influence public policies in regard to good governance and awareness of gender diversity; and creating informal networks in the Euro-Mediterranean countries for the exchange of information, experiences and sharing good practices. The CEF will host network’s 5th meeting at the CEF premises on April 21, 2016.
