WeWrite Webinar 1: Topic of the Policy Paper
About this learning event
This webinar marks the first session of the WeWrite series, a program designed to support young public officials in enhancing their skills in policy analysis, effective communication, and drafting policy notes. The primary objective of this session will be to guide participants in defining the topics of their policy papers. Each mentee will have the opportunity to present their chosen topic and provide an overview of the associated problem statement.
Over the summer, eight mentees diligently worked on their policy papers, following a structured methodology and engaging in one-on-one meetings with their assigned mentors. Through these sessions, they refined their understanding of their chosen topics and began the writing process with a clear focus.
During the webinar, each mentee will deliver a 15-minute presentation, in which they will articulate a well-defined problem statement and provide a concise problem description. The emphasis will be on presenting the problem itself, rather than analyzing it at this stage. Presenters will focus on outlining the negative aspects of the problem, supported by relevant data, statistics, and credible sources.
Following the presentations, mentors will offer feedback, providing recommendations and insights to help strengthen the mentees' work. The session will conclude with input from the lead mentor, who will guide the participants on the next steps in the policy paper development process.
