About this learning event

This event will be delivered in the format of online course. The course will consist of three 90-minutes webinars and online materials and will be conducted on:

Tuesday, 21.5. - 14.00 CET
Thursday, 23.5. - 14.00 CET
Tuesday, 28.5. - 14.00 CET

    At this course, participants will learn how to compile data related with the use of different payment services and instruments, as well as with the payments processed through main payment and settlement systems. We will also cover securities trading, clearing and settlement for the different types of pre-and post-trade infrastructures and systems. Compilers of payment statistics will improve their understanding of typologies and the underlying methodology of payment systems. They will also get practical insight into compiling such statistics and understanding data gathered. Analysts will gain a deeper understanding of using data to develop policies that support e-commerce and efficient payment systems.

    We will also discuss:

    • What are the challenges central banks are facing when implementing different directives related with payment systems;
    • How to properly understand payment accounts and how to use it to ensure proper financial inclusion;
    • How to implement payment system directive and what is the proper communication with commercial banks in order to compile relevant and reliable statistics;
    • What is ECB framework related with payment statistics, how to follow guidelines and validate data, who are the users of compiled statistics;
    • How to approach methodological and technical challenges during data compilation and analysis.


    Who should attend

    This course is intended for compilers of payment statistics, working in central banks and other relevant institutions; users of balance of payments accounts and analysts from other public sector institutions. We will also consider applications from officials working in related areas.
