Are Public Finances Gender Aware? PEFA Deep Dive into Global Trends
The webinar will highlight the growing trends of countries around world in placing increased emphasis on including a gender focus in the design, implementation, and evaluation of budget policies. It will explain how gender responsive public financial management (PFM) responds to differing needs of men and women and subgroups of these categories—e.g., youth, elderly, people with disabilities, etc.— and promotes gender equality.
What you will learn
During this online activity, we will present the Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA) recently launched framework for assessing gender responsive PFM and explain how this tool has been tested in countries around the world, including in Ukraine and Indonesia. This was done to understand the degree to which their PFM institutions, processes, and systems are gender responsive, and how they can be further strengthened to ensure that public services, funded through the budget, respond to beneficiaries’ needs.
Participants of this webinar will be able to learn and discuss the following:
- How public financial management systems can be capitalized on to design and implement pubic services that respond to the needs of men and women, youth and elderly, people with disabilities, and others?
- How and why PEFA measures countries’ efforts in integrating gender considerations in the PFM institutions, processes, and systems?
- How gender has been mainstreamed in PFM in Indonesia and Ukraine, how PEFA has been used to measure performance of gender responsive PFM, and how results of the assessment will be used in the future?
