“FAD Director Vitor Gaspar today nicely illustrated that FAD houses the highest number of public finance experts in the world. Their expertise has been crucial in supporting public financial management reforms around the globe. Their future strategy remains ambitious. IMF FAD wants to continue building synergies to foster reform processes and it is clear that they will remain a key partner for many countries as they develop and implement fiscal policy in the future,” stressed Ms. Dobovišek.
The CEF Director praised the work of IMF FAD experts in South East Europe and expressed her strong support for a continuation of the close working relationship the CEF currently enjoys with the IMF. “We have been successfully working with FAD since our establishment in 2001. IMF technical assistance missions in the region pinpoint learning and knowledge sharing needs for public finance officials. We capitalize on this input and design learning and regional cooperation activities that take into consideration country specifics and build on the existing knowledge and experience in the region. Our role as a knowledge broker between the IMF experts and public financial officials in the region has been constantly praised by high-level officials, and I am confident that this will remain the case in the future,” said Ms. Dobovišek.
The FAD conference brought together fiscal policy experts, senior policy makers and IMF staff to discuss both the evolution of fiscal policy over the past half century and the challenges likely to lie ahead.
