On May 18-20, we’ll deliver a workshop on that topic designed for mid to senior level public finance officials who actively deal with budget formulation, strategic planning and budget decision-making. It will discuss a range of issues related to using Medium-Term Budget Frameworks (MTBF), including: recent developments and good practices in MTBFs; country experiences and challenges in implementing MTBFs; relevance of fiscal rules to MTBFs; scrutiny of MTBFs by Fiscal Councils; associated measures required of line ministries; and integration of EU funds within MTBFs. The workshop aims to help participants better understand objectives and features of medium-term budgeting, identify challenges and bottlenecks in introducing sustainable and credible MTBFs, and share experience with colleagues from South East Europe in addressing these challenges.
