Enhancing Practices in Compiling Macroeconomic Statistics

Consistent and credible macroeconomic data enables fiscal analysis. Countries need to establish processes and gain knowledge to be able to compile comparable fiscal data. A helpful resource for many countries to address this matter are also international standards, such as the European System of Accounts (ESA) 2010, and the Government Finance Statistics (GFS) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In cooperation with the IMF the CEF recently hosted a capacity development regional workshop on public sector classification and debt statistics. The workshop was part of the »Improve Capacity for Government Finance Statistics in Southeastern European Countries” project which aims to provide technical assistance on improving capacities for GFS in SEE countries. The project is supported and funded by SECO – State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.

The workshop was jointly delivered by Philip Stokoe, Viera Karolova, both IMF, and Cecilia Pop from Eurostat. It brought together practitioners from five SEE countries. The learing event concluded on a highly successful note.
