A lively debate developed at the conference Reinforcement of e-Governance in the Danube Region in Ljubljana about achievements and crucial accelerators of transformation towards e-government and e-governance. The main message from the conference speakers and participants was: “Recycle and share, collaborate and coordinate.”

EU Strategy for the Danube Region can be a roof under which cross-sectoral, cross-border, synergetic policy making and exchange of practice can take place. Success in e-government is not limited to the richer countries as is the case in the Danube region where we have champions in e-government and we have countries that have infrastructure in place, but need to develop more services and content.

Check out the conference website for impressions from the conference and to see Moldova’s and Slovenia’s ICT-driven innovation and public administration modernization efforts, a reality check from a German perspective and what were Estonia’s key strategic decisions for success in e-governance development. Conference speakers also discussed about participatory democracy as a substantive part of e–governance, smart cities and other relevant e-topics.
